 headshot

Braxton Hughes

Mechanical Engineering

What company did you intern with and where are they located?

Alabama Power - Dadeville, Alabama

How did you identify and apply for your internship? Are there any specific resources you used to find the opportunity (i.e. Handshake, career fairs, other recruitment events)?

Career fair

What was the application process like?

It was easy and straightforward

Tell us about your internship experience. What types of tasks and projects did you engage in? Was there a particular project or part of the experience you learned the most from?

I engaged with customers wanting power, drew up jobs, worked with the line crew. Working with the line helped me understand why we did things the way that we did them and taught me to try to draw up jobs efficiently

In what ways did this internship help you prepare for your next destination after Auburn?

Created social and communication skills

In what ways did your coursework or other experiences at Auburn prepare you for your internships? Are there specific topics or skills you learned from classes that you put into practice on the job?

Fluids made me look at power lines differently, if you think of the power line like a pipe with water flowing through it, it helped me understand how the power got from one destination to the next

Do you have any advice for other students looking for internships like yours?

Best decision I ever made. It gives you the experience other companies are looking for when you graduate. A lot of companies won’t hire people straight out of college due to lack of experience and this really helps with that
