Parker Megginson, a senior in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was named Auburn University’s Honors College Distinguished Research Scholar.

The Distinguished Research Scholar Award, part of the Eagles of Excellence Annual Awards, recognizes a student whose research embodies the mission to “pursue truth with courage and conviction,” according to the Honors College.

Megginson prides himself on his academic journey at Auburn, having maintained a perfect GPA over his four years.

“It means everything to have my research recognized this way,” Megginson said. “I’m very grateful to be part of a community at Auburn that values and supports student research. It makes me excited to keep learning and improving.”

Alongside excelling in academics, Megginson has immersed himself in leadership opportunities and extracurriculars. Megginson currently serves as the president of Auburn’s chapter of Eta Kappa Nu, the international honor society for electrical and computer engineers and as the corresponding secretary of Tau Beta Pi, the honor society for all engineering disciplines.

Megginson also published his work in the MDPI Modelling Journal. His research “Optimizing the Electrode Geometry of an in-Plane Unimorph Piezoelectric Microactuator for Maximum Deflection” propelled him to be a front-runner for the Honors College award.

Megginson is praised by his professors as hardworking and dedicated. Mark Nelms, Godbold professor and chair of electrical and computer engineering, highlighted Megginson’s achievements in his recommendation letter.

“Parker is an exceptional student who has consistently demonstrated academic excellence, research potential and leadership throughout his time at Auburn,” Nelms said. “His ability to lead, organize and inspire others makes him highly deserving of this award.”
